How to Hatch and Equip a Pet in Core Keeper
Build a powered Egg Incubator, use a cracked egg and equip your first pet. Includes the materials for the incubation setup.

Pet eggs need a powered Egg Incubator. After incubation, use the cracked egg, then equip the resulting pet in your character’s pet slot. Incubation and equipping are separate actions.
Get an egg
A Loyal Egg hatches into a Subterrier. Digging spots are one documented source, but finding an egg is not guaranteed at every spot. If you already have a pet egg, start with the incubation setup below.
Build a powered incubator
This route starts with a Copper Workbench and uses an adjacent generator.

Make the Glass Pieces by processing sand blocks in the Glass Smelter. Place the generator directly beside the incubator to provide power.
Finish hatching
From egg to equipped pet
- Power the incubatorPlace an Electricity Generator directly beside the Egg Incubator.
- Incubate the eggPut a pet egg into the incubator. Wait for the cracked-egg output.
- Use the cracked eggMove it to the hotbar and use it. This releases the pet.
- Equip the petPlace the pet in your pet slot. Opening the egg does not equip it.
Opening a cracked egg does not automatically equip the pet. If you opened an egg and nothing follows you, check the pet slot. Official pet-equipping rule
If incubation does not progress, check power first. If the item is already named “Cracked … Egg,” proceed to using it rather than waiting for another incubation cycle.
